After the introduction of "Bamboo as a Substitute for Plastics" initial, the development of the bamboo industry has entered the fast lane.

This year, more than 20 "Bamboo as a Substitute for Plastics" industry bases are under construction or preparation in 17 Chinese provinces of bamboo production areas. 

Bamboo product standards are actively carried out and more than 30 new international and domestic standards drafts are formed initially.


China's bamboo industry employs more than 29 million people, the scale of China's bamboo industry is huge, with more than 10,000 bamboo processing enterprises, and the output value of the bamboo industry has increased from USD 12 billion in 2010 to more than USD 59 billion, with an average annual growth rate of more than 30%. 


Continuous scientific and technological innovation has accelerated the pace of "Bamboo as a Substitute for Plastics" initials, and at the same time is promoting the high quality and efficient development of the bamboo industry, providing a nature-based solution to the high energy consumption and reduction of non-degradable plastic products.

"Bamboo as a Substitute for Plastics" Projects can Get special Subsidies for Investment within the Government Budget

On April 8, 2024, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) issued a notice on "Special Administrative Measures for Energy Conservation and Carbon Reduction Investments within the Central Budget", which focuses on supporting energy conservation and carbon reduction in key industries and areas, and the circular economy to help reduce carbon emissions. 


Among them, Chapter 2, Article 6, paragraph 3 of the "circular economy to help reduce carbon projects" mentioned support for "Bamboo as a Substitute for Plastics" product production, including bamboo daily necessities, bamboo building materials, bamboo industrial production. 


If the above projects are in line with the direction of the circular economy to help reduce carbon emissions, the support funds will be controlled at no more than 15% of the total investment of the project, and the support funds for a single project will not exceed 100 million yuan in principle.

Shaowu City is located in Fujian Nanping Wuyi Mountains, bamboo industry is one of its two leading industries, Shaowu bamboo industry annual output value of 7 billion yuan, per hectare of bamboo forests to achieve an output value of 150,000 yuan, was named "China's Bamboo Home Capital" and "China's characteristics of the bamboo township".

Shaowu now has more than just "Bamboo Cube" Ecological Science and Technology Pavilion and the local actively promoted "Wuyi Bamboo Cube" brand. 

A large number of projects has signed; the brand effect will continue to expand and bring Shaowu bamboo industry’s goal of "Buy Global Sell Global " into reality  and help high-quality development of Shaowu bamboo industry.

European Commission Approves EU Rules on Packaging and Packaging Waste

Recently, the European Commission approved the EU Rules on Packaging and Packaging Waste, which also includes the rules of packaging design and waste management. 


The rules aim to address the environmental problems caused by the increasing amount of packaging waste. For example, from January 1, 2030, certain single-use plastic packaging types and "fluorinated compounds" (PFAS) will be banned. 


The rules aim to reduce packaging by 5% by 2030, 10% by 2035 and 15% by 2040. A target for packaging recycling has also been set, in which all packaging will be increased from the current 55% recycling rate to 70% by 2030.

National Low Carbon Day on May 15th, 2024

This year, the National Energy Conservation Awareness Week was designated from May 13 to 19, with the theme of "Green Transformation, Energy Conservation". The National Low Carbon Day will was held on May 15, with the theme of "Green Low Carbon, Beautiful China".


Bamboo materials will help practice the concept of green low-carbon and accelerate the green transformation of the development mode.
