India’s National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) is taking a significant step forward in this transition. Starting January 7, NTPC’s Solapur plant will begin utilizing bamboo biomass to partially replace coal, aiming to reduce its carbon footprint and reliance on fossil fuels.


In addition, government support through subsidies and financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) is fostering bamboo cultivation, creating a steady market for farmers and driving the sustainable development of bamboo biomass energy.

Professor Sheng Kuichuan highlighted at the 2022 International Bamboo and Rattan Organization conference that bamboo biomass energy, particularly bamboo charcoal, could replace coal, significantly contributing to carbon neutrality goals.
