Nowadays, the field of bamboo composites is getting more and more attention from the public due to the rapid development of advanced bamboo based application technologies.
Bamboo is fast-growing and highly available, offering a green alternative to traditional materials. With the development of bamboo innovative technology, its application prospect is very wide and plays an important role.
Bamboo Winding Technology
Recently, Bamboo Winding has appeared on CCTV-1, letting us know about Bamboo Winding technology and the inventor of Bamboo Winding technology, Mr.Ye.
“Bamboo winding" is a bamboo-based material technology, an original technical invention by Chinese scientists, also known as bamboo winding composite material technology.
Bamboo winding composite material technology breaks through the limitation that people have been using bamboo as a simple material.
It is a special technology to deep process bamboo into new fields that can be used in urban comprehensive pipe corridors, high-speed railway carriages, aircraft parts and so on.
Bamboo winding is a biomass composite material formed by using bamboo as the base material and water-soluble resin as the adhesive, processed and shaped by winding.
The material's process is characterised by the absence of flat surfaces and corners in the structure of the product, which is machined into a round or curved shape, thus maximising the benefits of bamboo.
So, what are the advantages of bamboo winding products? Bamboo winding products are lightweight, high strength, corrosion resistant, low cost and more.
Because Mr.Ye led the team to research the bamboo winding technology for seventeen years, which made the bamboo winding composite material industry become a typical green industry and a representative of the new quality productivity.
"BAMCO" Project
While China is committed to developing advanced technologies for bamboo, foreign countries are also actively involved in the exploration of composite material technologies.
Although composite material offer significant advantages over traditional metal materials. However, such materials have their inherent weaknesses. During the production process, it is difficult to decompose and recycle the composite material again after it has been cured.
Therefore, the waste of carbon fiber composite material can only be disposed of by landfill, which has a certain impact on the environment.
On 19 November 2018, Expleo, Arkema, Cobratex and other companies joined forces in a project called "BAMCO”, which aims to develop a new bio-based composite material made of bamboo fibers.
This more environmentally friendly composite material can be used to replace glass and phenolic resin based composite materials in internal airport covers and on-board kitchens of aircraft.
In order to reduce production and usage costs, in the BAMCO project, the development team combined this biomaterial-based composite with traditional manufacturing processes, which will play a key role in the mass production of the material.
Significantly, a number of European cabin and component manufacturers have already shown strong interest in the new material.
Cobratex also researches applications in the automotive industry.
The official website information shows that their new bamboo reinforcements pre-impregnated with thermoplastic matrices are successfully used in the embossing process.
This technology is widely spread, especially in the automotive industry, it allows composite parts to be manufactured at a fairly high production rate.
Innovative Solutions from altPlus
From automotive parts to eco-friendly tableware, altPlus meets a variety of needs in different industries with cutting-edge technology.
1.Automotive
Bamboo is one of the sustainable materials programmes because of its rapid growth and abundance. Among natural fibres, bamboo fiber has good physical properties.
● Bamboo fiber has good moisture absorption and desorption properties
● They have a remarkable ultraviolet (UV) resistance, owing to their sodium copper chlorophyllin content.
● They possess superior mechanical response.
Researching lightweighting in the automotive industry is a trend, so what are the advantages of bamboo fiber?
The advantageous application of bamboo fiber in the field of plastics and steel is mainly reflected in two aspects: bamboo fiber felting and bamboo fiber-based bamboo plastic polymer composite materials.
First of all, it meets the requirements and trends of lightweighting of vehicle materials. For every 100 kg of weight of materials, the fuel consumption is reduced by 0.3 to 0.6 liters per 100 km. The vehicle weight is reduced 10%, and the exhaust emissions are reduced 6%.
The thick and thin cell wall of bamboo fiber alternates with more than 10 layers, and the wood fiber has 4 layers, making the bamboo fiber itself tough, stretchable, wear resistant, plasticizable, and rigid better than steel.
The unique natural porous structure of bamboo fiber has microcirculation to regulate dry and wet, adsorb odors, and is not easily deformed relative to plastic. Sound absorption and insulation and noise reduction.
